Leonard Bernstein earned glory as a composer, conductor, and pianist (classical and jazz), but nothing gave him more pleasure than the joy of teaching. He presented the unique blend of spoken words and music known as the "Young People's Concerts" throughout his tenure as music director of the New York Philharmonic and for several years s: Leonard Bernstein touched millions of lives as composer, conductor, teacher, and activist.

He frequently visited homes around the world through the medium of television, particularly through his fifty-three award-winning Young People’s Concerts (), which at their height were seen by nearly ten million in over forty countries.

Originally designed for young viewers but equally 5/5(1). Leonard Bernstein () was on of the twentieth century's preeminent composers and conductors. His creative output spans the range of musical genres, including works for orchestra, theatre, ballet, film, solo voice, choral, chamber music, and by: Leonard Bernsteins Young Peoples Concerts.

It was a matter of luck or fate that I stumbled into this book at a second-hand book market in downtown Athens. It was left unnoticed at the stand as peoples attention was drawn to more popular or modern titles as is usually the case/5.

As Young peoples concerts. book many of Bernstein's scripts, the scripts for the Young People's Concerts found their way into book form. First published in and revised in"Leonard Bernstein's Young People's Concerts" was expanded in to include a total of fifteen text transcriptions.

YOUNG PEOPLE'S CONCERTS by Bernstein was based on his televised lectures with the New York Philharmonic, written in response to the shows' popularity. This book gathers fifteen of the best of these fifty-three transcripts, providing lectures which capture the meaning and joy of music for young audiences.5/5(5).

Get this from a library. Young people's concerts. [Leonard Bernstein; Isadore Seltzer] -- Discusses various aspects of music such as: What is melody.

What does music mean. What is classical music. The text is based on Bernstein's television series of young people's concerts.

A pleasant surprise is that the final two concerts are actually recorded in native dual-channel stereo - and pretty effective stereo at that.

Overall, the sound is not great but more than acceptable for its purpose. My only regret with this set is that it contains just 25 out of the total of 53 Young People's Concerts that Bernstein actually gave/5(67). Young People's Concerts have introduced generations of children to classical music—a friendship that lasts a lifetime.
